2020 Ethics, Public Records & Sunshine Laws Workshop

During the 2013 Legislative Session, the Florida legislature passed new ethics legislation requiring that Commissioners and other Constitutional Officers take four hours of Ethics programming each calendar year.  This workshop is open to Commissioners, County Staff and all other Constitutional Officers.  Participants who complete this workshop in its entirety will receive 6 core credits toward the CCC Certification as well as fulfill their 2020 Ethics requirement for the Legislature.  County staff will receive 6 hours of Core Ethics credit for attending toward their County Government Education designation.

Since 1996, as part of FAC’s Certified County Commissioner (CCC) Program, FAC has offered a comprehensive 6 hour mandatory Ethics, Public Records & Sunshine Law Course. Our existing course meets the requirements addressed in this legislation. FAC will offer several opportunities for Commissioners and Constitutional Officers to meet their requirements by holding at least three Ethics workshops in 2019. We will offer these workshops prior to FAC conferences - Legislative Day (March), Annual Conference (June) and Legislative Conference (November).

FAC’s program includes expert speakers from the Attorney General’s Office and the Florida Commission on Ethics to explain Florida’s stringent laws. Participants will learn ethics requirements for elected officials, understand the Sunshine Law and Public Records Law, learn about reporting requirements, and become familiar with the process of an ethics complaint.

This workshop will be held September 9, 2020 (1:00 pm – 6:00 pm) at the PGA National in conjunction with FAC's Innovation and Policy Conference (Palm Beach County).

REGISTRATION CANCELLATION:

On or before September 2, 2020: Refund of the workshop registration fee, less an administrative fee of $50, will be allowed provided written or faxed notice of cancellation is received by FAC. No telephone or verbal cancellations will be accepted.

After September 2, 2020: No refunds can be issued due to facility obligations.
